Hallmark with a BAT wings outspread and a W in center

Postby marklookup1 » Fri Oct 18, 2013 6:46 pm

I have a little pickle fork. Has crown like shape on the tip of the handle. On the back is it marked STERLING, and it has a hallmark that depicts a bat with open wings and a W in the center of bat body. does anyone recognize the mark?

It doesn't look exactly right from what I'm seeing, but Weidlich Sterling Spoon Company would have to be high on my list of possibilities for this trademark. An image of the entire piece might be helpful for identification. Good luck with your research.

Though somewhat obscured, It is one of the variants of Weidlich's 'owl' mark, have seen it numerous times on both their line patterns and souvenir spoons.

You are right. Thanks for your help. I thought it was a bat.
