This is a wonderful forum, but I have been unable to find any information on the following, so will ask your indulgence in responding. I have an antique dinner fork with no marks or indication of composition. The back of the handle is stamped with the name Anderson & Randolph, S. F. (presumably San Francisco).
Can anyone shed any light on whether this name was a maker or a retailer? I don't know if the fork is sterling or coin. Thank you.

Anderson & Randolph was a store located in Montgomery Street, San Francisco. In January 1870 they were robbed of a large quantity of jewelry. I imagine they were retail as I can't find any reference to manufacturing.

The principals of the firm Anderson & Randolph were James Anderson a Scotsman and William C Randolph a New Yorker.

The is a decent probability that your fork was produced by one of the San Francisco makers. If you post a picture of it, perhaps the style or pattern might indicate which one.
