Does anyone know this maker's/retailer's mark? Found on a Fiddle pattern salt spoon.

This is pretty much a stab in the dark, but until something better comes along, one name to consider is Charles H Van Allen a jeweler who was born in Canada in about 1849 and immigrated to the U S in 1865. He was in Grand Isle, Nebraska circa 1880. Around 1890 he was in Tacoma, Washington associated with a watchmakering business, and he shows up as a jeweler in Eastman, Georgia in 1900.

I was thought of him or Charles Henry Vancott of Madison WI, whose father had been a partner of John Polhamus in NYC, but both seemed to late for the piece.

There's always the possibility that the piece was not new when it was retailed by C.H.V. & Co.

My own inclinition is that these pseudo marks are Canadian or maybe even Australian, but hopefully, someone with give you a better idea about them.
