mark on coin silver ewer?

Does anyone recognize the mark on this coin silver ewer? It is an eagle stamp, F.M.C., and a star stamp.
Also, the ewer is engraved "A.F.R 1863" in a laurel wreath. Any ideas on why you would monogram and date something?
