Need assistance identifying mark

I have inherited my husband's family sterling flatware. Some of it is quite old the mark I am trying to identify is a lion facing left, then what looks to be an X but almost flowery and then 925. In front of this is the stamp STERLING. The knives have steel blades rather than stainless and are rounded at the ends. Any help would be much appreciated as I know very little about sterling. I am trying to determine the approximate age of the set. Many Thanks.
