Pair Rococo candle holders marked 12 ARON

Postby imnideit » Wed Sep 05, 2007 3:34 pm

Hello,
I have this big pair of sterling candle holders and was wondering if anyone new the maker and place of origin, it is marked 12 and the ARON, it seems, the only other marks anywhere on the two are other 12 markings. I think they are Eastern European (German, Polish, Austrian, etc.).
Thank you so much for any help, I really appreciate it and love this site.

In the adress book of Hamburg, Germany for 1820 you can find a silversmith and jeweller Jr. Gans Aron. You should find the arms of Hamburg "3 towers with door" + a letter for the elderman on your candle sticks. Perhaps you can make a photo of the other stamps to better confirm Aron of Hamburg

Hi again, a D. Aron with description of your mark existed in Königsberg from 1850 -1913, Vordere Vorstadt 34; Vordere Vorstadt 16 - 1850; Junker Str. 6 - 1860; About 1913: D. Aron, Hans Aron owner Hofjuwelier; Vorsitzender der freien Vereinigung der Juweliere in Königsberg. Perhaps you find a date letter and the stamp of Königsberg/Eastern Prussia: a crowned cross? - Another Aron existed in Danzig 1903.

Hello, the Königsberg mark was rarely used after the guilds were dissolved in the 1860ies. I date this around 1870 and I believe this is the Königsberg-Aron. Best wishes, Bahner
