Silver Creamer 19th? Century Maker CH WIEGER Please help id

Postby Rodney » Mon Aug 13, 2007 9:04 pm

I have a small 6 inch tall cream pitcher that is clearly marked CH WIEGER, a German name but I'm not at all certain of the origin and I don't have access to any resources to identifiy the maker. It appears to be hand made with an engraved monogram on the bottom along with an engraved date? 26.2.88, this piece however appears to be much older than 1888 so I guess I need to find out the period that this silversmith worked. No other marking, possiblity of a hallmark on the bottom but if it is a hallmark it is so poorly defined to the point that it is illegible. Any help in identifying Wieger, the style or age or any info that can point me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Dear Rodney, I am new here , so my first answer was probablyy a miss. Here my information again. As the hallmark is going round your creamer it misses a "S". So the real name of the maker is Schwieger. Born as a butchers son in Schöppenstedt, inscribed 5.6.1832 with Wilhelm Ahrens in Wolfenbüttel being accepted as journeyman 3.7.1838. With Jürgens in Wolfenbüttel he is doing his masters degree on 30.4.1844 to work on his own in Schöppenstedt. His "Masters Letter" he finally gets on 11.7.1851. It is stamped with the seal of Wolfenbüttel Guild of 1652. The type of creamer you have is common in the years between 1850 and 1890, regards Wolfgang
