Cruet

Postby Margaux » Sat Jul 28, 2007 9:35 am

I have a small cruet and would like to have information on the hallmarks.
There is another small hallmark, a import mark for the Netherlands for the period between 1906 and 1953.

I hope some can help, because I don't have a good feeling on these marks. Hanau pseudo's?

Hello Margaux.
I fixed your links and enhanced your picture of the marks.
Can't identify them, but maybe this will help someone else to.

Hello, maker is Schleissner from Hanau (the sickle is his mark). The "TS" is an imitation of an old Nürnberg mark (Thomas Stoer the younger). The combination of the three mark as on this piece can be found on other Schleissner pieces, too. Best wishes, Bahner

Thank you Bahner. Can you give me an indication of the period he worked in as a silversmith?

Hello, that is a little unclear. In ads and on their homepage (schleissner-silber.de) they claim to be active since ca. 1680. That is strange, since J.D. Schleissner was born in 1793 and started in Hanau in 1816 or 1817. However, they are still in business, probabaly one of the oldest companies of the German silverware industry still active. Best wishes, Bahner

Thanks for your help. It is a pitty that they don't use some kind of yearletters in Germany. It would make some things easier.
