help needed to identify/date 'three-tower' mark

Postby mattyboobatty » Sun Jun 24, 2007 1:10 pm

They thought the symbol might be the Edinburgh mark, but I have checked many websites and the marks don't seem to match. This one is considerably less ornate and intricate.

The only other mark on the spoon follows the castle/tower stamp and reads I.S.S. - again I have had no luck chasing this one up either.

Any information you could throw in my direction about this spoon (and for that matter what I should do with it, me being a total ignoramis on this subject!) would be very gratefully recieved.

Matt

It looks more like Hamborg to me.

Definitely Hamburg; the letter "D" in the mark is that of assayer Johan Jacob Probst, working 1853-1865. The maker "I.S.S." is Johan Wilhelm Siegmund Saatröber, born 1822, citizen 1856, still listed 1869.

Hope this helps!
