Asparagus tongs?

Postby Granmaa » Thu Mar 22, 2007 12:36 pm

Here is what I believe to be a pair of cast asparagus tongs which I've since broken. They'll be the subject of a thread in the Silver Care forum.

The maker's marks is a bit worn, but could someone work it out from the remnants? I'd be interested to know an approximate date as well.

Hello, it is a cake server. Could the maker be Adolf Mayer from Frankfurt ? (see section with German maker's marks after 1886). Best wishes, Bahner

Thanks a lot Bahner; can you put a date on this cake server?
Also, (maybe a silly question) what sort of cakes would this serve?

Hello, well - we have all sorts of cake in Germany (maybe cake is not the correct translation - sorry, English is not my mothertongue). One could not serve the softer ones with this, of course. But something like "Marmorkuchen" can easily be cut into slices and served as such, without breaking or crumbling the slices. As to its age: anything betweeen 1900 and the 1930ies. Best wishes, Bahner
