German Thimble - Maker?

Postby carling » Wed Mar 21, 2007 8:04 am

Can anyone identify the maker (RO) of this German thimble? From the style I would guess that it is late 19th/early 20th century.

Hello, don't quote me on this but I believe this is an incompletely struck "BO", rather than a "RO". Maker could be B. Ott & Co from Schwäbisch-Gmünd. First half of the 20ieth century would be my guess, too. Best wishes, Bahner

That's very interesting, Bahner. Many thanks for your reply. I can think of one other thimble maker who was based in Schwäbisch-Gmünd: Soergel & Stollmeyer whose thimbles were sometimes marked like this on the top:

I really doubt whether there would be two German thimble makers making 'stone' topped thimbles - BO and RO?

What do you think? Clearly RO and not BO

Hello, I agree, this is RO rather than BO. So skip that about Ott. Best wishes, Bahner
