Hello, don't quote me on this, but I believe this is not silver. Berlin maker Jürst & Co. used a similiar mark on his cutlery, made purely from German silver. He also used the "13" on these pieces - obviously to fool buyers. Usually his mark comes with an eagle - but who knows.... ? Best wishes, Bahner

thanks for reply,Bahner. ---I bought that item inexpensively and was told it is brass. But as it didn`t oxidize ,I thought its gold covered. When its german silver ,why guilding?Or otherwise, why taking German silver as base material, when I´m going to guild it.Then its weight is 155 Gramms.I thought not heavy enough for Nickel-Alloy (Alpacca/Alfenide/Britannia-metal)--Ì don´t know how heavy it should be,if its brass, nevertheless its brass or its guilded.what is it? do you know whether JC produced brass items?
best regards

Hello again,
Bahner you`re right. Just made a determination of the specific weight.
And result: its massiv brass. 8,3 gr/ccm (silver 10,5)
So at least its exactly that what it should be.---But why doesn´t all my brass in my house behave like that ? :-)--This item didn´t oxidize the last five years.
best regards
Silvy

Hello, German silver is an alloy of copper and nickel, brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. German silver does not oxidize, it corrodes if brought into contact with acids. So it reacts differently than real brass. The less nickel German silver contains, the more its colour is like gold. So this is not gilt, this is just a cheap version of German silver with a lot of copper. Best wishes, Bahner
