any idea of the maker ? is it germany !?

here we have a 4 piece set - fine hammered silver about 1925 - looking very " art deco " but there is only 800 and tm or mt ....
could anybody please help ?

A german 800 silver "Kaffeekern" of that time should have had Halbmond und krone.(halfmoon and crown)I thought.I have some older german silver of ca 1880 hallmarked with 800 without moon &crown.

Very true, they should, but I have seen numerous examples that do not have the reichsmark. I am hoping someone can explain why this is, was it not compulsory? I can understand the reason on a small brooch, but not on large pieces.

I've also come across the same scenario on Austrian silver, maker's marks of well known firms like Sturm, Scheid and Klinkosch - only followed with a numerical standard mark.

Hello and congrats, stunning pieces ! Stylistically this seems to have been influenced by designs of the Wiener Werkstätten around 1922/28. One can see similiar shapes in designs by Peche and Hoffmann. The mark (badly struck) is that of Theodor Müller from Weimar. Founded in 1863 by goldsmith and jeweler Müller, a workshop for silverware was added in 1904. It executed many of Henry van de Velde’s designs during his time in Weimar. Müller’s shop existed into the early 1940ies. Don’t know what - if anything - happened to him after the war. As Tom noted, that halfmoon and crown are missing should not be overestimated. Hallmarking laws were not as strictly observed in Germany as in other countries. Best wishes, Bahner
