Hi-
I am a complete newbie trying to research the history of some family gold-plated silverware. It was acquired sometime in the 1840s by my ancestor who was a successful ship captain. It was a gift to him supposedly from someone with a Napoleon connection. So, I was looking at French hallmarks but couldn't find anything that looked like this. In my day of Googling the only thing remotely like it I found would be an Augsburg city mark from the 1790s. There are only two marks, a pinecone thing over a Y, and something that looks like a pretzel.
It is a set of 18. There are a couple of knives and forks that I believe were added at a later date that have a London hallmark (either from 1831 or 1911, I can't tell the difference between those two letter years).
Pardon my first attempt to embed an image:

Is this an Augsburg City mark?

Hi, welcome to the forum. Please embedded your images.viewtopic.php?f=5&t=42199
Great silver cutlery set. Indeed Augsburg, year letter Y used 1777-1779. The pretzel mark/maker's mark could be for: Johann Beckert V (the fifth).

The replacement piece, I believe made in London;
London year letter q for 1791

Maker's mark MB for Moses Brent;

The London town mark leopard's head mark seems not to be struck, duty mark of King George III (1786-1821) only.

Thank you so much! And thanks for embedding the images for me. I tried embedding the imugr link between the img tags but it didn't work, maybe because of multiple images?
Some of the other replacement forks do have the leopard head but a different makers mark. But anyway I am mostly interested in the origin of the main set, so thanks again.
