I am a complete newbie trying to research the history of some family gold-plated silverware. It was acquired sometime in the 1840s by my ancestor who was a successful ship captain. It was a gift to him supposedly from someone with a Napoleon connection. So, I was looking at French hallmarks but couldn't find anything that looked like this. In my day of Googling the only thing remotely like it I found would be an Augsburg city mark from the 1790s. There are only two marks, a pinecone thing over a Y, and something that looks like a pretzel.
It is a set of 18. There are a couple of knives and forks that I believe were added at a later date that have a London hallmark (either from 1831 or 1911, I can't tell the difference between those two letter years).
