Hi,

I recently bought a miniature silver mug (diameter ~3.5 cm) with a lid. The lid has a hole and a strange rotatable dish (also with hole) attached to it.

Hallmarks: "H" and " 12L. Silber"

It should be "12 Lot" silver = 750/1000 silver, probably pre crescent + crown era

Is it possible to identify the maker/year only from the "H"?

I would really appreciate any information, also regarding the PURPOSE of the jug/lid. Thanks!

Hello, this is a candle wick holder. As you stated 12 L. SILBER is for "12lötiges Silber", equals 750/1000 fine. This can be very roughly dated to 1850-1870. It will be near impossible to identify the maker, H may be his initial, no idea though. The engraving refers to the German city of Frankfurt, which might or might not be the city of origin. Hey, thanks for your reply! Now that you say it it seems plausible that it is a lamp. Haven't thought of that due to the appearance of a drinking vessel. I am still a bit puzzled by the rotary function of the little plate...
