Candlesticks - unknown origin

Postby snakeuk » Sat Nov 18, 2006 7:15 pm

Hi there,

I have this set of candlesticks and was wondering if anyone had an idea of the date and origin of them?

Thanks.

Hello, maker is Johann G. F. Welle from the city of Arolsen. Welle (his father was the gardener of King Frederik the Great of Prussia) was born 1778 and died 1826. These candlesticks were most likely made around 1800/1820. I have no idea what the letter "H" here stands for. Arolsen used no date letters and there is no known Arolsen goldsmith whose name stars with "H". Best wishes, Bahner
