I believe this is a solid silver serving spoon (9.5"), marked "SCHARTE" with what looks like a lion. It has zig-zag lines, which I think were put there as a silver purity test. It also has what looks like a script "A" at the right end of the zig-zag line.
I am curious as to manufacturer, age, and silver purity.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Scharte Solid Silver Spoon
Thank you for the reply. I just need a little clarification on the information. I'm not sure what the first line -- "ref. W.Scheffler no 1847 #378" means.
Also, I assume the first of the three dates is date of birth, and the last is date of death. Is the middle date when he began producing silverware?
Regards,
Dave
