Is that the city mark for Hamburg? The maker looks like "IT" with a little pennant flag? There is an engraved presentation in Germany that is dated 1840.

Yes, it is Hamburg with letter A (ca. 1840).

It looks like I / T and there is a symbol of a flag next to the I
