German/Central European SL mark on silver buttons

Postby cgbeard » Wed Oct 18, 2006 10:28 pm

I've got a set of ten clothing buttons bearing the '13' and 'SL' marks. The only reference to an SL I can find comes out of England in the late 1800s, but the 13 is leading me more in the German direction.... Has anyone seen this mark before? Thanks!

your buttons could be also austrian or german about 1820/40 - the are called " filigree" - 13 means 812,5 fineness silver - kind regards, tom from austriaaaaa

HEllo!
So possible, that button made by Libay Sámuel from Besztercebánya (now BAnska Bistrica in Slovakia) He used this marks in buttons and smaller items. Ha was famous about his filigree art. For example made a filigree bust about Napoleon and the hungarian king I. Ferenc.
Best regards!
