Unknown German maker

Post by Athos »

Dear Forum,

Does anyone know the name of the maker of this sugarbowl? It's marked "12" and "IGW" in a heartshape. I think it is German, late 18th Century.

Thank you very much in advance for reactions to my question.

Many regards,

Athos

Hi

The "12" is for the 750 silver content. The other mark would be either the town mark, or makers mark. I don´t really know that much about the town marks.

Hello, the heart-shaped mark is a maker's mark. Without a town mark it is quite impossible to ascribe this to a specific maker, as there are several makers using a maker's mark much like this one. Best wishes, Bahner
