CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS HALLMARK?

Postby nmdc114 » Sat Sep 09, 2006 10:51 am

Hi everyone. I own a small silver Clog which has a strange set of hallmarks but I dont think they are dutch (maybe wrong). Any information you could give me to help understand these marks would be greatly appreciated.

These are once again pseudo-hallmarks used in Hanau, Germany in the late 19th and early 20th century. The second mark - WS/H, in a heart - is the true maker's mark, that of Weinranck & Schmidt of Hanau, founded in 1889 by Wilhelm Weinrank and Fritz Schmidt. These little silver shoes were very popular in the early 20th century and were made by other makers in Hanau as well as other countries. Many that I have seen have a padded fitting in the opening and were used as pincushions.

Hope this helps!
