Not sure what this trinket does, can anyone identify it?

Postby Markaty » Fri May 05, 2017 6:17 pm

Hi guys,

Could someone tell me what this small item of 800 silver would have been used for?

I thought maybe a pill holder, but as the middle of the tube pushes down and is tensioned, I thought perhaps not. I would say money holder but diameter is too small.

Any thoughts?

Hi,
Check the diameter.
In German Empire the diameter of silver 1/2 Mark was 20mm. Is it even smaller than that?
10 and 5 Pfennig in copper nickel was about the same, 1-2 mm difference.
Many European countries had coins of similar diameter at the time (before The Great War).

Thanks guys for replying. The Diameter is 16mm whivch I thought may be too small for a coin holder.

I guess there were coins in those days that were that small!
