Fiddle pattern serving spoon.

Post by Granmaa »

This is a fiddle pattern serving spoon whose date and maker is unknown to me. Can anyone help? Also, what is this pattern called in Germany?

Hello, can't say I see the mark too clearly on my screen, but if this a gent's head with a hat (much like Mercury's) then it is probably Meyen from Berlin. Best wishes, Bahner

Hello, Meyen was born around 1811, became master on January 19, 1846 and must have founded his company around that time. Later he celebrated 1845 as year of foundation, which seems a litte strange, as he would have to become a master first to do so. Anyway. To my knowledge the company existed until the late 1940ies or early 1950ies. Best wishes, Bahner

Thankyou Bahner. One last question: when would you date this piece?

Hello, well - anything between 1886 and closure of the company. Just a hunch: between 1900 and 1930. Best wishes, Bahner
