Information on this German? Knife

Postby Joerg » Sun Aug 28, 2016 7:32 am

Dear colleagues
I got hold on some "scrap", consisting of worn down knives and spoons. Now I am trying to identify them.
Here a knife, the marking looks very German, so I post it in the German forum. Can you help me with it? Age?, where it is from? Maker?
Any information is welcome.
Jörg

I am attaching the page of a book with cutlery that look like yours. Cutlery are from the second and third quarter of the eighteenth century in southern Germany or Austria

Hi Amena
Very helpful information, your book looks interesting. Looks like I have to start learning the knife part of collecting silver. I am surprised by the age, but great. The sad part is I got 3 of these knives, the one on the picture, and two more. But the blades of the others were cut down to a stub of 5 cm. Probably recently.
Thank you, Jörg

Do not worry. These blades are usually fixed with colophony or seldom tin soldered. It is very easy to replace them by yourself.
Poking in different baskets of the fleamarkets you can find beautiful blades with broken handles at very little money.
