Tee dose, Germany, maker?

Postby sebastian4743 » Sun Jan 11, 2015 4:35 pm

I have found this silver item advertised as a tee dose and wonder what is the maker of it. I assume it is a new item made look older in Art Nouveau style. The weight of silver is a substantial 400 grams. Do someone recognize the marks?

Thanks Jörg for your reply but I doubt it. I found the same mark here: http://www.silvercollection.eu/germansi ... ark23.html but it is marked us unidentified. The mark is in circle and it is more a K and L.

Hello, correct, this is an unidentified maker, not Lutz and Weiss. I read this as an elaborate "K" (struck incompletely here. I have seen it struck perfectly on other objects) over "W". Best wishes, Bahner

I think the maker is J. Knewitz, Mainz

The mark KW stands for Wilhelm Knewitz. In my source is written J. Knewitz what means Juwelier Knewitz. The present owner of Knewitz, Mainz (5th generation) Rainer Knewitz told me, that there was also a jeweller Jakob Knewitz (first generation), the father of Wilhelm Knewitz and that produced or bought items were marked with J. Knewitz. So I think it depends on the production time if 'J' means Jakob or Juweller.
