Hello. I would like to know more about who the maker is of this compote that I own, with initials "RG" in a shield. It would be before 1814 I believe. Many many thanks for your expertise if you can help with this. David, Durham, NC, USA
I was able to figure out that it is Dutch, but I am still unsure how early. I think it bears the Rotterdam city mark and the Province of Holland standard silver mark of 935/1000. The hallmark that has me confused is the A with the O above it. This mark does not line up with any of the date-marks that I can find online, which go all the way back to 1814. So is this urn even earlier than that? I was also unable to identify the maker whose initials “RG” are hallmarked within a crown. Do you know anything about this Early .935 Dutch Silver Urn?
