Silver sculpture

Postby huszas76 » Sun Jul 21, 2013 1:19 pm

Hello!
I made some pictures about this silver sculpture. Cca. 10 centmeters tall.

In the side of the stand we can read the maker (I think). But in the periphery we can read another name, Zadikow (I think, maybe a designer). And there is an import hallmark for Pest in Austria-Hungary.

Does anyone know something about the firm, or the designer? Thank you all the answers!

The inscription of the rim reads: GUSS (=casting) PRIESSMANN BAUER.CO MÜNCHEN, which is the maker, now called Kunstgießerei Herbich, Maisach (near Munich). Zadikow is most probably the designer Arnold Zadikow.

It’s car mascot (a hood/bonnet ornament, radiator cap)

The same figure was cast in bronze and silver plated but yours has Austria-Hungary import mark.
The description in German of the same sculpture in cast silver plated bronze.
Female nude, silver plated bronze, bent to bind the sandals, braided hair, on flat square plinth, 9 cm H.

Examine the base; I think I’m right — it was not meant to be fixed to the plinth. There are two pins for bayonet mount.
Let’s have in mind who could afford a car and silver mascot at the time? This is a great find.
Regards
