Postby Johannes » Fri Jul 12, 2013 9:10 am

Hello,
i have a old last Rites Silver Garniture in a wooden box. at the bottom of the cans are 2 identical and one other silver and maker mark. i think on two cans the " A " is for amberg or annaberg. the maker is " FAZ " on the other can i can not identify the city mark, the maker mark is " PV" or " PW ". can somebody help to identify the marks ?? i think the age is ca. 1770. is this correct ?
best regards

Yes indeed - You are right - it is three times Amberg about 1760..

The last hallmark is city coat of arms of Amberg.
It is Peter Wirth.

The other mark is Franz Anton Zeckl - also Amberg.

The A-Mark is indeed similar to Annaberg in Saxony from 17.th Century.

I like it - very nice !

Hi Johannes,

The item is called a Chrismatory. It holds three oils; Oil of the Catechumens (usually abbreviated to OC or CAT), Oil of the Infirm (OI or INF), and Sacred Chrism (SC or CHR).

Do the letters on yours tie up with the above?
