German " Fleischgabel " - Maker's mark unknown

Postby Dendriet » Thu Jul 11, 2013 6:54 am

I don’t know how they call it in English. ;)
About 16.5 cm long
It is gilded for the half? (strange)
Neo Rococo style.
Who is the maker's mark.? (very unclear)
Period ?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Looks like a partial mark of Koch & Bergfeld.

See: http://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_marks_a1884_3.html

Hi Trev,

Indeed, that must be him.
BTW the size must be 26 cm instead of 16,5 cm
I think he's between 1884 - 1920 (gilded)
Thanks for the information

Best Regards

Yes, in German "fleisch" is flesh/meat and "gabel" is fork. A fish fork is a fischgabel, a bread fork is a brotgabel, a cake fork is a kuchengabel, and so on... Once you learn the root words, you can recognize the various combinations.
