European Fork and Knive with Coronet

Postby Joerg » Sun May 06, 2012 11:40 am

Dear Forum members

can you help me with this fork and knive? From the style of the handle I would date it between 1720 and 1800, the style of the steel parts allow a much later date, up to 1900. No marks on the silver handles. The knive blade has a mark "VOLLMAR". I would place it to a European origin, Germany, probably southern Germany.
Maybe the coat of arms may help with the identification. It contains a coronet, a "Adelskrone", so lower European nobility. Any help for the date, the origin or coat of arms is welcome

Thank you

Jörg

Hello, cannot add much here, except that the engraving (two stars with a crescent moon) remind me of the city mark of Halle, Saxony. Possibly a hint at a former owner ? Best wishes, Bahner

A German forum, specialized in heraldics, was able to identify the family crest. It is from a family WEISS in Zug, Switzerland. See here:
http://www.chgh.net/heraldik/w/we/weissm.htm

This helps to localze the origin, Swiss. No further progress in pinning down the manufacturing date. I assume around 1750, just an educated guess.

Thanks a lot to the experts in the German heraldic forum.

Regards

Jörg

See here my enquiry in the forum, it is in German:
