I am stuck again and need help.

These Hallmarks are on a piece which also has the French Swan import mark.

So far I have found out that the Swan was an import mark for countries that did not have a Customs convention with France. Amongst these countries were America, Germany, Russia and China.

I belive this item is made in Germany but I could be way off.

The bird on a perch hallmark looks like a Parrot but again I could be mistaken

Can anyone help please, thank you.

Hi,

The French swan mark; the swan mark indicates that the item is at least a minimum standard of 800 and was produced in anon-treaty country. The swan mark used 1883-untill 1970. However; In addition the swan is struck on silverware of the legal standard of fineness, but of unknown origin, which is sold at public auctions."

Just to help you out. No guarantee.
Your photo shows L+G in an oval frame. In the Netherlands we had an importer of silver & gold items registered under the responsibility mark, L+G in a rectangular frame for; J. Levy & F.H. de Groot, located in the city of Bilthoven during 1951/1986.

In September 1953 marking duty tax and ‘unguaranteed duty tax marking’ of objects of national, foreign and unknown origin was abolished in the Netherlands.

Perhaps this Dutch importer used L+G in an oval frame for articles exported to other countries or sold to other importers/buyers like in French. And perhaps prior 1970, to avoid the costs of proper hallmarking, the French swan mark has been applied so the item could be sold in French.
Unfortunately, if above stated is correct, we still do not know anything about the maker of this item.

Regards,

Oel
