W.H.W. / WÖRLE / MÜNCHEN
Hello
In this special stylistic combination, I don’t remember similar things from Hagenauer’s workshop, nor from WMF Göppingen factory (former: Schauffler & Safft).
It’s a »hotchpotch« of stylistic details; mainly »martelé«; but also a kind of bead and “stitches”, like notches in metal, on the rim. The lids handle area is, as like to be a “highlight”, sculptured. »Hammerschlag« (»Martelé«) and »Kerbschnitt« (»notching«) were popular — be teaches then also in evening and weekend courses, for »decorate yours home«.
More then a half millennium was three balls usual for such a kind of items — photographers know, why?
So I state that Hagenauer and WMF are only involved in this item as trendsetter — but not in the production, stock and sale.
The letter type, WÖRLE chose for his maker’s mark, is also a »hotchpotch« between »Jugendstil« (»Art Nouveau«) and »Neue Innerlichkeit« (»New introspective sensibility«).
That’s normal, that a body, a nation after be wounded e.g. through the First Humans World Catastrophe (WWI) makes balance, “cleans up” in behaviour and possessions, concentrates on basics, reflect their interaction to their surrounding …
So these items are in general and in stylistic details (including the design of marks), documents of the »ups« (»Out of the “ashes”«) and the »downs« (»Economic decline« trough »Black Fridays«) of that period between these two Humans World Catastrophes.
For reason of costs, low income, unemployment … these items haven’t found their way in »Lieschen Müller’s« and »Fritzchen Maier’s« (»everybody’s«) living space. The population haven’t had sufficient time for a sounded reflection — and when the »Rattenfänger« (»Rat catcher«) came, them for final gave steel-grey, they followed him until the mess up.
Yes, the item looks like to be an origin of WÖRLE. The maker’s mark, a big unit of three lines, wasn’t first struck complete; so the strike had to be repeated — hence struck twice.
For sure I know, that WÖRLE wasn’t WMF affiliated — after the WWI, WMF had her own problems of a new start, and other plans to: The »Neue Kunstgewerbliche Abteilung« (»New Applied Art Department«) of Hugo Debach.
And Hagenauer, Wien? »Was stört es den Mond, wenn ihn ein Hund anbellt?« - WÖRLE and Hagenauer? Never.
I guess, it’s a bowl for sweets — by WÖRLE made from brass, fluid tin-plated inside = never silver plated.
Brass tin-plated inside, for to prevent the formation of the poisonous verdigris.
Kind regards silverport
