unknown marks on a late 18th century spoon

Postby R ingo » Tue Nov 24, 2009 1:11 pm

Hello,
knows someone these marks? The first mark I think is an "F", the second an "H". Are this citty- and master mark, or a date-letter? I would be glad, if someone can help.

Kind regards,
Ringo

I have seen this mark also on other spoons with a engraving 1800 and 1799.
I have also seen this mark on an other spoon with a M insead of a H.

Hello Theoderich, thank you for your better foto. On your foto the form of the E-mark is better to see.
A mark with a similar form was used in Erfurt in the 18th century (Rosenberg 2, p. 70), but the "E" looks a little different.

Could it be Erfurt? Is there someone, who knows a master in Erfurt with the mark "H" probably second half of the 18th century?

Kind Regards,
Ringo

I also thought that it might be Erfurt
But I do not think that was stamped in Erfurt with 10 Loth.

Would it help, when the letter is not so see as a E but as a combination of more letters (TE, TEL or TFL)? When it is so, then the mark is most likely the makers mark and not the city mark. Could the H be the city mark?

Kind regards,
Ringo
