Small Silver bowl

Postby silversearch » Fri Apr 17, 2009 10:35 am

I have a small silver bowl which I believe to be German. It has flowers and fruit decoration with two plaques showing a male and female(or young boy)dressed in roman clothing. Aroung the top it has the words in capitals: Trink mich aus und leg mich nieder steh ich auf so full mich wieder. There are three marks, one looks like Augsberg but slightly curved, one I cannot find any information on and acapital H (but could be HL conjoined with a bit worn away). I have had a good look for the marks but not found all of them and being no expert am not sure if the Augsberg marking is true.

Hi Silversearch,

Although I have not been able to attribute these marks, my gut feeling tells that these are Hanau pseudo-marks; a false Augsburg pyr mark, in this case a bunch of grapes, a fleur de lis-mark and the conjoined letters "H" and perhaps "L". I have recently seen a double drinking beaker with the medallion of the Swedish king Gustavus II Adolphus marked with the crowned shield and the letters "R.C." (s475).

Hope this helps.

Best regards/JAKJO

Hello, agree, this looks like Hanau pseudo marks. Best wishes, Bahner
