Large German Ladle- Hallmark Help Bruckmann Sohne?

Postby pauline5555 » Tue Mar 17, 2009 10:11 am

Have a large 800 silver Ladle. Marked with crescent, crown , 800 and what appears to be a bird. Is this the mark of Bruckmann & Sohne? Any ideas how old it is?
Thanks

Well, the pattern — Bruckmann’s number 570/1, called “Sächsische Hofmuster” (“Royal Saxon”, more or less) — was introduced in 1924. (It was, incidentally, one of the very few designed by a woman: Helene Brandt (1879-1950).) Also, the Bruckman mark here was used from 1925 through the company’s closure in 1973. Based on this information and the style of the monogram, I’d say mid-20th century.
