RJ240 on 18k ear clips

I bought some ear clips online. They were sold as not hallmarked but solid 18k .
When I received them I did my usual inspections and did a scratch test which confirmed 18k. I looked for evidence of plating didnt see any but I did find a hallmark hidden.

B/c I wanted to verify the k I took it to a high end local pawn shop that had an x ray tester. They said they were 17 k gold
But does anyone have info on the hallmark? I speculated the 240 might mean k weight but that would be less than 8 k gold.
