Gold earring hallmarks

Postby 333ccc » Wed Jun 08, 2016 8:45 pm

Hi! I have had no luck with these marks, hoping someone is familiar with them. Or at least the diamonds with the "A" side.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

The marks may possibly be Portuguese, but sharper images of the marks will be required for a positive ID. Ensure you are using the macro feature on you camera when capturing the image.

This is the clearest I can get. The diamond or checkered pattern has an "A" next to it. The second mark is just hard to read. It may be an E 4 but that's pure guesswork. I cannot find anything to match the first mark with the A.

Hi,
These marks are real mystery.

Just guessing they might be Greek. The first mark is well described as ``checkered or diamond`` pattern.
The second initial mark might be Xi Theta Ξ Θ. (Xi is different from what`s seen in word document: just three horizontal lines in Greek alphabet).
In that case, the letter in the first mark could be Alpha.
I cannot access any link and reference to Greek marks, if legislated at all, no link to assay office, either.
Still searching.
Best wishes
