Mysterious Marks

Hello
Hope someone can help with explaining the marks on a watch I've inherited from my Mother.
Inside the back cover of the watch there is a Leopards head, then a crown and 18 under it, and then the letter S.
Above this is
N
CAP
On the movement is engraved

TUPMAN
Gr. RUSSELL Str.
1688

Any help would be very welcome.

The uncrowned leopard's head is the mark of the London Assay Office. The crown over 18 shows that the gold is 18 carat and the "s" in a rectangular punch with cut corners is the date code for the assay year 1833/34. The case maker's mark, CAP, is that of Charles Auguste Pettermand who registered this mark on 21 December 1828 when his address was given as 12 Upper King Street, London. He registered further marks in 1834 and 1840.

Tupman of Great Russell Street was the watchmaker and he would have bought his watch cases from specialist watch case makers such as Pettermand. He is probably the James Jeremiah Tupman who gave evidence at the Old Bailey on 15th September 1825 in a case of theft from his premises.
