I'm trying to identify the manufacturer of my inherited pocket watch. Here are the pics that i have taken so far:

I've seen that case mark attributed to Alcide Voumard of St.Imier, Switzerland. How correct the attribution is, I cannot say, but it gives you a route for further research.

Yes, that's the one I'm referring too, it's the maker's mark, not the hallmark.

Oh! I thought that was the hallmark! What is the hallmark then? Where can i find it?

The hallmark is the squirrel. It indicates 14ct (583/1000).

yyeey i discovered something new! in the opposite side of the AV sign, there is a squirrel with an M and an I underneath

I have no dog in this fight, but I have seen the AV mark identified in this thread by Oel and Huszas as an Austrian import mark from the mid to late 19th century:

I assume their information is correct as it comes from a published source, and if so it would be excellent to include this mark in the forthcoming updated Austrian section.

In my admittedly very limited understanding of Swiss pocket watches, Voumard made ebauches--indeed, down to the 1960s. It seems unlikely to me that an ebauche maker in the period in question would also make cases. It was also extremely common for Swiss-made pocket watch cases to bear multiple hallmarks (in addition to Swiss hallmarks) in anticipation of their export throughout Europe and even further abroad, although in this case I think we can assume the Austrian mark was stamped upon import.

At any rate, the maker of the ebauche is really the key here and if the maker of the watch is indeed Voumard, then the name should be clearly stamped on the ebauche as well as the case.

I leave it to others to make some final determination.

Hi guys, i really appreciate all the help it has been given to me!

Now i'm a bit confused, The A/V is the manufacturer or the import mark? Also, i've been asking and removing the rust out of the watch seems to be very expensive. Is there any method that would help me clean/remove rust from the watch without expending over 1000$? i would really like to at least clean it up

As for cleaning the item, that question may better be put to a watch forum for advice on such a specialized subject.

For this to be an austrian mark would make sense to me. My father's family lived a long time near Zagreb before moving to south america after the second world war.

The squirrels that are inside the case also have what i think it's an M



And i think there is yet another squirrel in some sort of oval however it's really really hard to see even with my magnifying glasses, look at the middle top of this picture
