Need Hallmark Identification on 14K Antique Art Nouveau Lion

Postby pebbles » Mon May 19, 2008 7:24 pm

Hello,
I have an antique pin that is marked 14K with a symbol. I have searched all my books, but cannot figure out what the symbol represents. Does anyone know what the mark is? Also, do you think the center repousse design looks like the face of lion? Or is it something else? Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I don't know the mark, bu I'm sure it is American, typical of what was being produced in the jewelry centers of Newark & Providence at the turn of the century. I think that particular safety catch was patented around 1904.
While waiting for someone to identify the mark, you might want to read about the face in the middle of the brooch.
