Gold Enameled (1920's?) Cigarette Case TS? ST?

Postby MomTut » Sun Dec 30, 2007 4:22 pm

This is a cigarette case with blue and green enamel decoration. I believe the hinges and the doorknob plates are platinum and they are set with tiny diamonds. If I had to guess an age I would guess the 1920's. The workmanship is exquisite.

When you press a little raised button on the lower outer edge the doors spring open. The interior is all gold.

The case is marked on the little arms (can't remember the real name, sorry) that would hold the side cigarettes in place. One is marked simply 14K. The other is marked in three places as shown below. First there is another 14K mark. Then there is a mark that is either a TS or an ST inside of a square standing on point. The square is incomplete on one side and I have a feeling this was intentional but can't say for sure. Could it be a C? The last mark is the number 870.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide on maker and age!

Hi Pat.

Thank you! I had a slight New Year's computer meltdown and have been unable to post until now but I do appreciate the information very much indeed.

It really is a pretty little thing. I don't smoke but I can still imagine opening the case and offering a cigarette to someone who does. I'm sure it made a fine impression when it was in use. In fact, it's so darn pretty it almost makes me want to smoke. Oh dear. Help!

Thank you so very much. I wish you a very Happy New Year!
