Unknown animal mark on old sterling fork

Postby DISSmith » Thu Aug 11, 2005 6:03 pm

I have this single fork (6 1/8" long) which looks like a pickle for or perhaps a fish fork. I have searched for the mark and have found things that are close, but nothing exactly like it. To the right of the mark is the word sterling and then "pat." Here is the best photo I could get of the mark and also the handle of the fork. If anyone recognized the maker, pattern or both, I'd be happy to know.

It's tough to tell exactly from the photo, but check out the mark for JB and SM Knowles on this website (American makers).

Hi,
It is the Knowles "Roman" pattern, that came out in 1900. Have never come across this variation of their mark before. Dmay, thanks for pointing us in the right direction.
Regards, Tom
