Sterling hallmark ID help please - eagle or gryphon

Postby chkptcharlie » Thu Aug 04, 2005 5:27 am

I'm trying to identify the maker and possibly the age of a rectangular sterling tray. I know it was a 1947 wedding gift, but I can't identify the mark. The tray is about 14 inches by 10.

The mark is the Meriden Brittania griffin, also used by International Silver after acquiring Meriden. I've seen the mark on pieces made well into the 1940s, would guess that yours was new in 1947.

Search references: Griffin, Griffon, Gryphon, Phoenix, over Torse.
