Hello! I am brand new to this forum and need some help please. I have a very old (I believe it is an antique) sterling baby brush and comb set. The brush is stamped Sterling 4054 and to the left of this stamp is a flag on a pole with the letters F&B inside the flag. The comb simply has F&B Sterling stamped on it. The comb looks as if it's ivory. Is there some way of telling if it is? The presentation box that the set came in has the F&B Trademark on the latch. I am not familiar with this maker and would like to know anything I can about them. Can anyone venture a guess as to the age of this set. Are the maker's English or American? Well, it's not English. Think it is American, perhaps by Foster & Bailey (Prov, RI)

The company was called White & Foster from 1873 to 1878. In 1878 the name became Foster & Bailey.
From 1898 to around 1951 they were called Theodore W. Foster & Brothers.
Both Foster & Bailey and the later Theodore W. Foster & Brothers used the F&B in a flag mark.

Thank you both so much for the information. I had no clue. Is there anyway of finding out how old this set is?

One other thing...does anyone know what the number 4054 after the word Sterling means? Many thanks!
