Help with GT mark revised
The earlier post was using a domain that was having problem with SSl cert.
Need help with an ID of this sugar spoon maker. The mark except GT is a weak strike. Maybe the pattern would be recognized.
Thanks

Re: Help with GT mark revised
Possibly the retailer's mark of Henry Voigt of Baltimore...we have some late 1890's ads posted (c/o Trev.), but no mark samples. If correct, then the maker might be an undisclosed wholesaler to the trade. Nothing conclusive at this point.

Re: Help with GT mark revised new close-ups
I shot two new close-ups to possibly help. Thanks
Re: Help with GT mark revised
I believe it may be one Louis T. Voigt watchmaker listed in R. L. Polk's 1888 directory at this same address. It's spotted on a genealogy site, but I do not have full access. So the mark here is "L. Voigt".
Re: Help with GT mark revised
So why does Louis just disappear from 1890's listings? Well....
In 1896, a Louis Voigt, Junior is advertising in Roanoke Virginia as an Optician and Practical Watchmaker: https://virginiachronicle.com/?a=d&d=ST ... IN--------

On page 44, at 118 West Campbell....full coverage of Louis Voigt and his twenty years experience (if you can get past the big blackout thanks to computer corporations that are driving us nuts by not leaving well enough alone): http://www.virginiaroom.org/digital/fil ... tory.1.pdf

Re: Help with GT mark revised
That's incredible, thanks. Makes perfect sense my family was from Martinsville, VA about 50 miles south of Roanoke, VA. So it's possible a member purchased the spoon in his store. So the date would be around 1890?
Re: Help with GT mark revised
On page 5 of that pamphlet there is a view of Campbell. On the left block is a sign for Watches. This might be his store.
Re: Help with GT mark revised
Dating it might be tricky. At this point, circa 1890-1915 (?) to be refined. [I have one of the amazing service plates from the Hotel Roanoke...they sure took pride in that town.]

Re: Help with GT mark revised
Glad to see the Hotel Roanoke has been restored. We used to dine there in my younger days. Thanks again for all your help.
