Sterling mark only

Post by bacco88 »

Hello everyone,
the sterling mark is engraved on this small tray, but there are no other marks besides this one. what does it mean?
that the tray is made by solid silver (925)? or silverplate? is it common to have other marks to indicate solid silver?
Thank you!

Hi,
Most likely it`s made of solid .925 silver as indicated by sterling mark, but, of course, there is no guarantee for that.
Because lack of additional marks (maker`s mark, hallmarks, state marks etc.) puts the item in the twilight zone. Meaning, it has no ID, it`s anonymous.
I suggest to have it tested, if it`s solid silver; enjoy it.
Regards
