Origin and Era of spoon?? 1 of 2

Hi- I am trying to figure out the origin and era of 2 spoons. I will post the spoons on separate messages in case they need to be moved to different forums. This spoon is 10 1/2” in link and only clear marking I see is “STERLING”. I appreciate any help.

I think what you have here (and with your other spoon) is a 1970s copy of an older spoon. I would guess the spoon it is copying is a Hanau Germany spoon from around 1900. Around the 1970's and 80's there were a lot of crude copies of older pieces made and sold at antique fairs. They would just be sloppily stamped STERLING because the original hallmarks would not come through strong enough to see on the copies. The Tiffany Strawberry serving spoon and Alvins Bridal Rose pattern are the two most common patterns I see copied followed by Roccoco revival Hanau pieces. It is hard to tell for certain based on your pics but the originals would have a sharper more crisp design.

Thank you. That is very interesting. I’m not sure when they were purchased (before 1995) because the purchaser is now deceased. However, when she gave them to us, she said she had purchased them on her travels overseas. She seemed to think there were treasured pieces. Lol. Do you have any recommendations on where I could to take them to confirm? I’m in Charlotte, NC. I googled local antique dealers and couldn’t find anyone who specializes in silver. Thanks again for your help.

You're best would be to find an auction house that has a specialist. Most antique dealers try to know a little bit about everything so they're rarely specialist in any one thing. At least that's my experience.
