maker's mark help

Postby frenchie_myriam » Mon Sep 11, 2006 4:39 pm

Hello everyone,

I have this lovely american sterling silver dip pen and I try to find who the maker can be with his particular. Can anyone help ?

Thanking you in advance

Best Regards
Myriam

PS As the hallmark is very small I had to cut it in 3 parts. Nevertheless it appears to be STERLING.E.

I went through my American silver reference books, but could not find your mark.

This is just an idea, but maybe the E stands for the Esterbrook Pen Mfg. Company, Camden, New Jersey. They were founded in 1858. Usually they marked their pens with Esterbrook spelled out. Maybe your mark is an abreviation they used, I'm not sure.

Best wishes,
Pat.

Dear Pat, Many thanks for your advise which also goes with my first feeling. Esterbrook is very known as dip pen and nibs maker. I just was not sure they were also silversmith.

Thanks again for your time and efforts.

Best Regards
Myriam
