A centerpiece

Postby amena » Thu Aug 03, 2017 5:10 am

I found this centerpiece, which has a brass pierced lid, maybe to put flowers (?).

Does anybody can give me information about the maker?
Thank you

I'm a little dumb: I searched under the J and the F, but not under the I.
I had never heard of a flower frog bowl, what a funny name.
Thanks to both of you.

A pierced screen to support flowers is called a frog - one of several meanings of the word. However I suggest, judging by the decorative nature of the piercing, that it's more likely to have been for pot pourri.

I note from the engraved date (US format) that the bowl was most likely a Christmas present in 1921.

As already suggested, it's a centerpiece bowl with a pierced flower arranging mesh, the top was usually plated either silver or gold - can post some period catalog illustrations later...
